Police have discovered a link between Joseph Irungu, also known as Jowie, and a mysterious Recce Squad member working for the US embassy.

The two were together for several hours prior to the 2018 murder incident, according to Chief Inspector of Police Maxwell Otieno, who testified before the High Court on Monday, July 18.

Otieno told the investigating officers that Jowie had requested him to wait at a gas station while he went to see Monica.

Jowie had a revolver in the car, which he took before heading to Monica’s residence, it was further revealed.

“The recce officer told us that Jowie returned past 11 pm and he looked disturbed. Jowie told the officer that he had a disagreement with the person he had gone to see,” Otieno testified.

According to the Inspector’s evidence, the officer was waiting for Jowie at the gas station on Mbagathi Way while he took a cab to Monica’s home.

Otieno revealed that Jowie changed his clothes in the hours following his detention in 2018 and used some of the goods discovered in the home of the Recce officer.

“While on the way, he removed a firearm from the car’s dashboard and hoisted it. He also took a white kanzu and a brownish coat from a bag in the back seat of the car, then alighted and took a taxi,” the cop testified.

It was also revealed to the Court that Jowie used a fake ID to identify himself to guards manning apartments where Monica lived.
